03 Tundra Driveshaft Problem
Hello. I am new to this site, looking for help and friendly discussion regarding my 2003 Tundra 3.4 4x4 with automatic transmission.
My Ujoint recently went out as I was driving. As yoou may know, the rear driveshaft in this truck is a 2 piece shaft with a knuckle in the middle, and a support -O- bearing in the middle. Unfortunately, the U joint damaged my driveshaft to the point where my local mechanic has said it is no longer useable. He has found a used driveshaft for me, but it is going to cost about $1200 to put it in with new U joints. I do not like the price, nor the complexity of this style of driveshaft. My question is, does anyone know is the driveshaft from a 2003 tundra with the same meotor and trans, but in a 2 wheel drive version (single shaft driveshaft) will fit in my truck? This would save me about $900 as they are only $200 new with U joints already installed. I do no offroading, so ground clearance isnt an issue there. Thanks for the input!
