New mod (gps)

I've always wanted a gps receiver for my 97 LX 450 and finally got one a few weeks ago. It's a Garmin V and so far I like it a lot. At first I mounted it next to the shifter but it was too low and hard to see. Also the stock antenna didn't work so great.

I decided that I wanted it higher up so I mounted it to the trim piece on the inside roof that goes around the map light and sun roof controls. I used the standard Garmin mount but I flipped it upside down. I had to drill another hole for the retaining screw and do a little trimming with the Dremmel tool to make it fit. Garmin should really make a mount that is more universal so that it could be used upside down. I took the mount apart and drilled two holes through the base and used two small nuts and bolts going through the mount and trim piece. I also use a piece of heavy duty Velcro under the base for extra strength and to fill in the gap between the flat base and curved trim.

Looks very nice.
I need to upgrade some day and get a nicer GPS.

I have the original yellow E-trex that first came out a few years back.

I also bought a remote antenna and mounted it to the a/c vent at the base of the windshield. The remote antenna works way better then the stock one BTW. It worked very good on the top of the truck when I tried it there but I could not figure out a way to run the antenna inside and make it look good without drilling a hole through sheet metal:eek: I settled for mounting it inside at the base of the windshield and works great so far. I ran the antenna wire behind the windshield rubber seal and it's completely hidden. The power wire is the same way going to the fuse box.
It took me about 3 hours for the entire job and I'm very happy with it. Very clean look! Bob
