May buy a FJ62...?

It sure looks clean with a few minor alterations to the dash for a CB radio. Other than that, clean, 180,000 miles.

I figured I'd throw this out there and see what you guys though. I'd like to have a hunting rig, but again be able to drive from Texas to Kentucky to hunt from time to time.

What's the scoop on the '89 fj62 models. Any warnings or suggestions on what to look out for? Comments?

Thanks guys.

I love them. I wish I still had mine. They are strong and comfy. They come with the 3FE motor that is fuel injected and lasts forever. The tranny behind it will only last around 275k miles. After that it might start to slip. I built one up a while back with 305k miles. It was a great machine. They do well offroad with a small lift. And 33x12.5-15 will barely fit stock!!! They do have a habit of rusting though. The only real down fall is that they get 10-13 mpg.

I had one for years, it's a beast of a truck. I had an Old Man Emu suspension on it that made it even tougher. Lot's of room for things like decoys. LOL.

Do's: chase down any rust and deal with it, the same with any minor oil leaks. ONLY use genuine Toyota parts. The aftermarket parts for those truck are junk.

Dont's: If you like to drive 75 mph, a J62 isn't for you. That engine won't last another 10K if you run it like a daily driver. Keep the rpm's down.

If anyone else is looking for one, check out Steve's wifes rig

There was an ad here in the classifieds for it a month or so back.
