looking at an 80's diesel fj60
What would expect to pay. Back story is owner passed away. Truck has usual rust around rear quarters, too small tires, etc, but it has the 3b diesel. I don't want to anger the family but what are these things worth ballpark. Fairly low kilometers, under 200 thou. looking for opinions.

So it turns out that the truck is in fact an 83 3b with a five speed manual trans. Pretty rusty undersides and quarters. 135000 kilometers though which equates to roughly 80,000 miles.

Did you get to drive it? With those low miles I'd think it should be pretty solid. Not sure if it will make much difference, but in two years it could be sold to someone in the US, seems like that might make it worth more.

FJ60 with diesel is a BJ60. Have you looked at the tranny and transfercase underneat that thing. I doubt that will fit in the 4Runner. I could be wrong, I've never heard of such a swap personally. That milage is incredible for a cruiser that age. I keep an eye out for one of those, but they usually have high 300s on the odo.

Just make pivoting engine mounts, no crossmember, and bolt the transmission output flange directly to the rear diff input flange. Might need a small spacer.
. A guy on BC4x4 is selling a '90 4Runner with a rebuilt '85 diesel engine swapped into it. Might be a thing to look into. There seem to be quite a few of those diesels floating around here lately. They are size a little nicer, as they were produced for the trucks & 4Runners.

Why do you want to tear this cruiser apart? With a milage that low it would be a good investment to get the rust fixed and keep it on the road. Out west here, those things catch a pretty penny. I am not sure how much we're talking here, but a decent one with below 300k usually will go from 6-8k. I would love to have one of those personally.
