I disagree...

I am shopping for a 80 series landcruiser. Suppose I ask a seller if the "diff" is locked, and he responds by saying yes. I then drive 300 miles to check said cruiser and the diff is not locked, only the center diff is locked. Symantics are in the details...Ask me how I know?

In the landcruiser world, diff means axles and center diff means transfer case.

on a cruiser it's still called a "center diff lock/CDL" regardless of it actually being the t-case, and it simply locks the f/r t-case outputs supplying 50:50 power vs the 60:40 (or whatever it is) it was when in normal driving mode. has nothing to do with the axle differentials.

in regards to asking a seller if diff is locked....unless they have a clue, i'd say most consumers don't know what this means since they've never used it. you need to ask if the rig has front/rear lockers and whether or not there's a button/dial on the side of dash for f/r diff lock.

I will only add, center diff lock can only mean the transfer case.

My lockers did not engage and my tc didn't lock either, took me switching from hi to low a thousand times. I got lucky that I didn't have to dig into them.
