got oil?

I have a '96 Cruiser. About 10k miles ago i started using Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic oil. I know it's normal to burn oil a 'lil bit. I don't quite check my oil often since I'm very busy at work and no time on weekends. Anyways, on the first 5k miles i added about 2 quarts after about 3k miles of not checking my oil. Changed my oil about 4k miles ago (9k miles total). Yesterday I added another 2 quarts. I checked uder the hood and I don't see any leaks or what so ever. I drive 65 miles to and from work. I was wondering if this is normal using a synthetic oil. When i was using Valvoline this don't happen. Should I go back to Valvoline or can you guys recommend a good brand and viscosity. I don't drive my LC to work everyday just the last few weeks since my work car is in the body shop getting painted. Need help.

M1 10w30 runs on the thin side, have you thought about trying 5w40? might be enough difference to keep consumption down.
