FJ 80 axle info needed

Dont bash me to hard I'm not a cruiser guy. I hang out in the 1st gen pickup and runner area. But his came into the local pick and pull this week.

As far as I can tell it is a 93 FJ80, passenger side drop, high pinion front axle. Full float rear axle. From what read today it is locked from the factory with a partial locker in 4 high, and fully locked in 4 low. Is this correct?

From the price sheet it looks I should be able to get both front and rear hub to hub for $250.00

I don't have a project or the axles right now, but thought if I picked them up, I could slowly build them, and leaf spring them under my 85 runner.

Anyone have any insight into making this happen? Other than the obvious, cutting all the old mounts off, leaf spring perches, castor angle etc. like is it supper expensive to change the front to manual locking hubs, do the lockers have be hanged out?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Front axle is fairly easy, swap out the factory drive flanges for solid axle locking hubs. Only tricky part of using it for a SAS is the steering. Not many companies make kits for that axle, so you'll have a limited selection of parts to choose from.

For the rear biggest issue is the differential is offset (as in not centered like a mini-truck axle). So that can mess up your driveshaft angles a bit, might have to run a double CV joint if you can dial it in w/ u-joints.

Thanks Roger. I think when I have money I am going to go ahead and pick them up. I am thinking that I might be able to talk one of my machinest friends into making some high steer arms for the front axle.

On the rear axle I think that I might be able to cut the long side down, run two short side axle shafts, and come real close to mini truck axle width. But I don't know. I need to get out there and do some more measuring

If nothing else I think I am going to pick them up for my next project.

On a side note, do you know of anyone that sells 1/2" 6 on 5.5" wheel spacers. I installed a IFS rear axle in my 85 runner, which is 3" wider than the front axle. So I bought 1.5" wheel spacers. But my front tires stick out 1" wider on each side than the rear. Only thing I can think of is the rear disk conversion makes the axle only 1" wider than a solid axle.

Thanks

AllPro used to sell a 3/4" 6-lug spacer, came with longer wheel studs. I still run the ones I bought many years ago, they work fine. You could try a set of 1/4" spacers, I've also run those, available from most auto parts stores. They usually fit the stock leg studs just fine.

hell fire makes knuckles for SAS I think it was.
Slee makes high steer arms for $700

I wanted the width so i went FJ cruiser rear and diamond front..I think its cheaper then making the rest fit.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with the fj80 front and rear on a mini truck I wonder if theirs a way to use the fj80 t- case if that would bolt up that would salve the rear problem with the axle and all you would need to do is move the gas tank which i cant see being as hard as fixing the rear offset

93-97 fzj80's use a full time 4wd transfer case with locking center differential. Not sure if it will interchange but you will lose part time 4wd.
95-97 fzj80's use a heavy duty 4runner automatic, so the transfer may bolt up. 93-94 fzj80's use the same transmission Toyota put in buses in japan, from what I've heard it's a beast!
