I'm investigating Land Cruisers for use as a family truckster. This way, I get my 4Runner back and can continue modding it for off roading. Then, when my wife wants something bigger than the Land Cruiser, I'll get it to mod for wheelin', too.

I can probably afford a (? Gen) model like those made up to 1997. Are there any things to watch out for with these models? Should I bite the bullet and get a 1998+ model? Are the V8 models that much better than the old Inline 6? Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks.
