1996 Land Cruiser A343F Hesitates on 1-2 shift

A343F when shifting from 1-2 seems to cause the motor to hesitate and shutter. If you manually put the land cruiser in 1 and then manually shift to 2, it shifts fine. It seems that in D the transmission is trying to shift and can not get into 2 as if it is slipping and then bounces back into 1 until it gets up to speed and will run fine in 2. This issue only seems to occur when the engine/transmission are to temperature. When checking the transmission fluid with the transmission to operating temperature, the fluid level reads that it is overfilled by quite some bit above the hot range. Could overfilling the transmission cause the above issue? Note if you manually shift it from 1 to 2, it seems to shift fine. This problem only occurs with the vehicle in D. Thank you all.

Overfilling can cause some weird things, but on an auto trans you should never starve it...

I would drain a little out and try it. Does it do the hesitation if you do full throttle shifts?

It does not hesitate at all at WOT shifts. Any thoughts? Possible solenoid valve bad in the transmission? TPS or transmission cable out of adjustment? I am just not very familiar with the A343F's. Wish I had the modules for my snap on scanner to plug in a yota so I could lock and unlock the solenoids myself to check them.

It has about 1 to 1.5 pints too much so I will drain a hair out and report back.

Drained the transmission fluid to the proper level and adjusted the transmission cable as per the factory service manual. Seems better but still under very light load conditions it is like it wants to lurch(sp) into second gear and bounce around for a few seconds unless you apply more throttle to get it through that rough point. At full throttle it shifts perfect although it seems to shift around 31-32 vs the 35-39mph the service manual states it should shift at.

95 Cruiser same problen

Hey dude I'm having the same problem. I drained mine as it was over full also. Cable is good as well as new TPS. Pretty sure it's a fluid pressure or solenoid issue.
