transmission slips...need help....

i got a 2001 tacoma prerunner v6 extra cab rwd automatic...

transmission fluid is changed out every 30k. transmission fluid is correct level and there is no check engine light.

so the car has about 180xxx miles on it and no the transmission is starting to show signs of wear...when at a complete stop i try to take off and then the car does not go into gear and its just revs up to like 3k then thumps really hard and then goes...if at a hill the then the car will roll back...sometimes when driving like 35-40 mph it will slip and rev up then pop right back into in gear again and run...

another thing is when i slam on the brakes to a complete stop the car will die and ill have to restart it or it will start to choke down and when i take off from there the car will just rev up to like 3k and then go...

so is it a sensor that is not reading right anymore or is it the transmission or torque converter? please help me with this im stumped!!!thanks in advance...

i would guess electrical issue with the trans ecu, causing the shift solinoids to not engage propery, maybe the lockup converter staying locked up when you come to a fast stop.
after the violent driving condition you stated,id look for a new tranny aswell.
just my opinion, ive never owned or worked on a truck like yours.....but i had a mazda protege that done something similar.
wait for more opinions though.

Is your fluid dark or burnt smelling with bits of stuff in it? If there is a sensor that is not reading right it should set a code, with or without the CEL on I would still check it, it may also have a code set for incorrect gear ratio which is pretty much a universal death code for auto trannys.
