Roll in bed liner done

 

Hope the custom body work looks better cleaned up. I am seriously considering adding some tree rubbers to the top of my bed, after watching you dance with that tree.

 

haven't had the chance to clean it up and see yet, busy sunday an monday and working today, i'll get her cleaned up tomorrow and let you know, but either way it looks 100% better than it did.

What brand did you use for the liner, and did you have to scuff the paint to get it to stick well? Anything you would have done different? I'm thinking about doing my lower rocker area.

I used Dupli-Color "Bed Armor", this is the 3rd bed liner I’ve done and of the 3 I am least happy with this one. On my '90 p/u I used Hurculiner, the only bad thing about it was it had maybe a little to many rubber pieces in it and if you crawled in the bed (I had a cap on it for a while) it kinda hurt the knees, but it kept things from sliding so it's not really even a bad thing, it looked great, didn't wear or peel off, if I ever do another I'll use Hurculiner again. Next on my '98 Taco I used Rustoleum brand, it was ok but wore off kinda quick in spots. This time I saw the Dupli-color kit on sale for $50 at Christmas (Hurculiner is around $90), well the price prolly should have told me something, first off the roller they give you in the kit is very hard (very low nap I believe is the correct term) to give it texture, however it was imposable to cover around the ridges in the bed with the roller, I tried a regular cover and ended up just brushing it on the entire bed, it worked ok but didn't give it the best texture (see pic below) (I don't remember what the rollers in the other kits were like but I don't remember having any problems with them). I had to do 3 coats to get full coverage. and finally it's already wearing off in quite a few places (after less than a week) in it's defense it said to let it dry for 24 hr for light use and 48 for heavy duty use, it only got about 45hr before I loaded up for Rausch, but I don’t really consider a few tires a cooler and a high-lift jack riding in the bed "Heavy Duty" the worst spots were where the high-lift was riding (pic below) anyhow I'd suggest a few extra days to dry before I used your bed for anything. I used the scuff pad they provided to scuff up the bed, I didn't spend all day scuffing it up as there wasn't a smooth or glossy spot on my bed to begin with (see before pic a few posts up) but I did scuff the whole bed, maybe I should have done more since prep is the most important part, but I thought I got it pretty well. anyway I have about enough left for another coat so I'll prolly wait a while till it gets worse then recoat it. Oh and also if you are doing a bed I alwas get 1 can of the Rustoleum bel liner in the spray can, it works great for spraying up under the side rails. and 1 more thing, I have always used a plastic liner on the tail gate, I do the roll on under it for rust etc but I like the plactic on there since it's a high wear area.
so in short things I would do differently next time? Use Hurculiner & scuff a little more.

yeah i used the dupli color on my truck and its coming off on the front part of the bed, i made the same mistake and let it dry for about 40 hours, i didnt think putting a john boat in my truck would scratch it up

 

So for those who don't know, I met with a tree at Rausch Creek, it pushed the area between the wheel well and the tail light in about 2"

RB did some on sight body work and got almost all of the dents out



It looks pretty good up close and almost perfect from a few feet back, the only dent you even notice at all is the one near the top, I'll give it another try at getting that one out when I get a chance. I really think if I can buff out most of the scratches you won't notice it at all. Oh and question about buffing, some of the scratches seem to have either dirt or tree bark in them, if i buff them is it going to rub that into the paint? any sugestions?

 

yeah I would consider that light duty which they claim 24hr dry time, maybe they need to up the time they tell you it takes to dry... or maybe it's just a crapy product...

Got my 100w off-road lights installed on my bumper a few days ago, they worked great at RC coming out from lake Christy at 10pm… which is another story altogether…

 

Haha, I think I know that story. Those lights are good for spotting orphaned spares!

 

your truck looks awesome man nice work. And i like the texture of the dupli color better than herculiner or rustoleum, but like you said its probably just a cheaper product. i also think the kit it comes with is cheap when i touch up the spots on my truck im gonna use some sand paper instead of that crappy scuff pad, maybe that will make it hold up better

 

Nice body work RMX, a shop would have charged 200 for that work. I think it's time for an exo cage...lol, truck looks great with the lights
