how are you taking care of the vss? I heard that was a problem with the ABS and traction control.

This 4runner doesn't have traction control. That was on 01+ models.

The VSS can be bypassed with an electronic speedo spensor on the gear driven Tcase.

ABS will be disabled and bypassed so the light won't come on in the dash.

You guys should get a kick out of this.

So, my buddy John sold his ultra clean first gen 4runner a few weeks ago. Since then he has been trying to find a decent 3rd gen for a family wheeler.

Well, he called me last night and ended up just buying mine. I figured mine was worth way more in one piece and it was pointless to start from scratch with it and ditch all of the decent suspension upgrades, gears, tires, etc on it. So, I sold it to him last night.

Then this morning he sent me a link for a rig down in Colorado Springs. Its a 00' SR5 4runner 4x2. Pretty much the exact package I already had minus the sport hood, Elocker, and fender flares. But, its midnight black just like my old 1st gen. So, we drove down to take a look. It needs a massive cleaning inside and a good polish/buff outside, but I grabbed it for a good price. Its straight as hell, no accidents, and Its got only 142K on it (only 3000 more than the silver one).

This deal puts me way ahead on building the new one instead. Also, because the new one doesn't have fender flares and I no longer mind cutting, its getting 37s now right off the bat.

I also grabbed two 9.5" 3rd members on the way home and scored a 4x4 A/T transmission for $250 including shifter, ECU, center console plastic, and everything else I need to put it in. This will save me a few $$$ on the prerunner adapter.

I got some pics I will post up soon of it.

Its amazing how much can change in 24hrs.

Right on. It is funny how things work out sometimes. I continue to look forward to the progress on the third gen front.

I guess I could start a new thread. But the Project "intervention" seems more appropriate now.

Scotty, did you see the ad on COttora for the 18's? Maybe worth looking into as they are already beadlocked, and since, to my knowledge, you haven't purchased tires yet.

IIRC, two wheels were missing the outter rings, which are easy to pick up from OMF.

Not a bad price either.

Yes, I am who they are sold to.

The only issue I am having with them is that OMF wants a ridiculous amount of money for two of the rings. That and tires are stupid expensive and have a really thin line-up in the 37" size.

I am likely just going to go with 17s instead. I could always use those beadlocks later for a different project. I build enough trucks that someone will want them.

Scotty

So, I decided to run the OME 851 springs in the rear. They will net me around 5" of lift.

They are 220in/lbs springs. So, they are 10in/lbs heavier than the springs I ran in the rear of the silver one. They are basically FZJ80 front 2" light duty springs. I am hoping they yeild the right amount of lift for this setup. We'll see.

So, I really wanted 37s instead of the 35s. So, I grabbed these off of Pirate4x4. 37x12.x17 Goodyear MTRs. These are great all-around tires and will work great on the rig.
