Man, thats a shame. I can see it from your angle. I just dont have any desire for their design is all. I appreciate the response though. Good luck with both the sale and your business!

Scotty .. so i just now read that you were never able to get the fuel gauge working using the ford sender .. i bought a ford tank about 6 months ago after seeing it in your thread , planning on using it in the 88 runner .. for some reason i thought it was all working and you posted the wiring colors somewhere .. well i can find it in your thread any more .. i did some quick searches and found the toyota sender reads 3 ohms when full and 110ohms when empty .. the ford is 145 ohms full and 22.4ohms empty .. i want mine working when i get around to install it, so im gonna pull the senders and take a look at them .. and this is for the 88 not sure if its the same for the 2000.just thought id thow that out there.

and one question man .. does the sky trans ebrake fit with the fror style crossmember?

thanks and good luck on the sale man .. great looking 4runner you built .

The sending unit on the 88 will read backwards, but it will work at least. ErikB turned his sending unit arm backwards so it reads correctly, but it will only read 3/4 when full.

His 3rd gen is a 97' though. And, something changed with the sending units in 99+ models. Mine is a 2000 and it will not read at all. So, I figured I would just run an aftermarket gauge for the tank. I just never got around to installing it.

Well, since nobody has been serious about buying the 4runner, I said screw it. So, I've decided to rework a few things.

First of all is a way to carry the spare. So, we cut off the old rear bumper.

Its still going to be a combo of plate and tubing, but will have a bombproof, dual sheer spindle on it.

Sorry to hear you didn't sell it but glad to see it is still evolving.
It is a one of a kind, high quality rig

Its no big deal. Its not like I am heart broken to have to keep it. I love the rig.

I was never in a hurry to sell it and didn't need to anyway. But, everything has its price. Now, its just that the price is going up.

Some more progress on the carrier.

I went back and forth about 10 times on whether or not to keep working with it. It was too far away from the body at first, so I decided to switch up the spindle design a little.

This is what we came up with before leaving tonight. Its growing on me. Its obviously a VERY similar design to the original bumper, just a little less departure angle. But we sucked it up as tight as we could get it.

Scotty: are you going to market these? This it he design I am thinking for my regular cab Tacoma, with tire carrier adjustments, of course.

I honestly don't know yet. In order to market them for the masses we would need to have these bolt on. And, I'm not really sure how feasible that is with the side wraps and stuff. Its definitely a "want to do" product. We have the general design down, but this particular design require extending the frame a little to get it to be strong enough.

However, since you are local, we could pretty much build anything we need to on the rig itself.

Here's what I'm thinking (and since I have absolutely no fab skills what-so-ever, take these with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila). Make the side wraps bolt on style, strong enough to take a solid hit, but so that they can be removed during installation. I read somewhere that on the 2nd gen Tacomas, you need to brace the frame with weld on parts in order to have a tire carrier because the frame bends too. I'm just spitballing, but that's the thought I had in my head, plate so the bumper looks complete and tubes to protect the bed sides.

Personally, I think tube bumpers on anything 95+ looks out of place.

Really coming to together now. We have a trick idea for the latch setup too as well as a spring loaded locking pin.

when i got my rear bumper it had a spring loaded pin which came loose a few times wheeling, and the whole swing out wiggled and shook a bunch. later I had PerkinsPerformance fix up the bumper... he went with a huge bolt(with handle on top) to secure the opening side of the swing out, less play in the swing out arm and it holds the weight better...
