Link geometry is DONE!!! Woohoo!

Now it all needs to come out so I can finish weld everything and finish grinding the frame and stuff down.













And, my new shop pup approves

I have a few questions (hopefully not stupid)... How did you determine the link geometry? Specifically, the angles and locations for the attachment points. Was it a matter of fit (at flex), alignment or a combination of the two? Last... Will you be using limit straps for the rear as well?

For the record, thank you for providing access to the photographic record of your work... which, by the way, is stellar and an example of why I joined this forum in the first place.

I run it through a link calculator and a CAD design program. The angles are more determined by those, but I still have to work around making sure it all clears and works together without binding. I have spent countless hours playing with the geometry to make sure it was just right for what I wanted to do. I've also talked to a lot of guys who have built their rigs in a similar manner and asked what they would do differently or change and took that into account as well.

Looking great my friend, I think I'm still sold on the TC long travel for me but stuff like this makes me start thinking about matching the front since I'll be swapping the rear anywho. She'll be going off of insurance next month while I get another car so I can start the real building.

One question, have you done any gross weights in order to compare to your finished product? Sorry if its mentioned somewhere in here I'm posting on a whim, lots of people including myself would be interesting in knowing.

Purely just a guess on weight when its done is around 4800lbs.

So, the rear axle is full welded and trussed except for the lower shock mounts. They have to wait until I figure what shocks I am going to run and what valving I want. I am leaning towards 360/80 valving in the rear.









On a side note. The current frame height it right at 25". I am hoping to end up at 23.5" once it all settles in and I add sliders, front bumper and winch, and a rear bumper/tire carrier.

Rear 3rd is done and installed.

I also added some pieces to the rear link crossmember to support the upper link brackets.

You did an absolutely, totally, 100%, unbelievably, freakin awesome job on that rear axle.

Finished the coilover bracing around the engine today. Built the draglink finally, and started to install the rear gas tank. Also gutted out the stock air box as it wasn't going to work with the bracing around the motor. Not to mention but it also gives me a viable spot for the ARB compressor and a windshield washer reservoir.

How sad is it that when I looked at the last photo I noticed the harbor freight 3/8 driver and screw driver and thought to my self "I have those same tools why isnt my 4runner that sweet?" Then I thought oh yeah, I have no fabrication skills and Scotty is the man. Thats why.
