I have been offered a deal on a lo-jack system for my 4runner. My mother works in Auto theft division of state police and may be able to get the full lo-jack system installed for $350! (special deal for police officers and family I think)

The lo-jack system has some pretty impressive recovery results 97% recovery within 24hrs. They also offer a lot of benefits if your car is recovered damaged or not recovered at all. My mother says that the lo-jack system with early detection upgrade has proven to be the most effective recovery tool they have ever seen.

Would you do it?

 

i would in a heartbeat.

the only thing is, my sister's crv had lo-jack and it made the alarm really really annoying. im not sure if thats universally true, or if thats how it interacted with the Honda system... but you seriously couldnt shut the car off unlocked, then open a door without the alarm going nuts.

i have the lojack. i think its a great idea to have it. i dont have the alarm system thing though.

I had it installed on my 2000 when I bought it. I think it was around $500 installed at the dealer for me. $350 is a great price. I think it is definitely worth the price. Never had to use it yet (knock on wood) but I'm glad it is there if I need it. Especially living in the auto-theft capital of the US.

 

That's a good deal for law enforcement folks... LoJack has a feature now (at least for motorcycles) that will alert you if the vehicle moves a certain distance while "armed". Don't know all the details, but my friend was telling me about it, it's going on his RC51 soon.

 

yea, its a service where i think you get a phone call to your cell phone telling you your car has moved.

 

yeah thats the early warning system...I think that comes with the deal. I think I am going to do it. The price is just too good for cheap insurance.

Here is another statistic for those of you in Washington State.

The Washington State patrol sends an aircraft airborne to track your vehicle within 10min of being notified of a positive lojack activation. Hopefully it hasn't been used as a battering ram at a road block by then.

 

lo-jac is great i found only one draw back....if the area ur in doesn't service it or the vehecile is taken to a different area ie from pa to fl and the police there don't know where it is......jo-jac is localized ie dallas can only sevice dallas/ft worth not houston or san antoino.......or mexico so if the theif takes it and scrams really fast you won't get the vehecil back.....but a 97% recovery is a great percentage and innj area the theives have a lo-jac locater and remove the system gps before they steal the vehecils was on 20/20 two days ago.......

 

I wanted to get lo-jack untill I found out the price. I was quoted $800 for the most basic setup, ouch.

 

No, I wouldn't.
Only because Mexico is too darn close and having just an hour response time is a little too borderline for me.
