2LT II Diesel here. Rebuilding the 3VZE will cost well over $1500 and then there's the question of how long the rebuilt engine will last. 2LT II has mechanical injection so I can get rid of the electronics. It will move the '95 as well as the current 3.0 and it can burn diesel, biodiesel or WVO.

Of course, I also have to replace the transmission, transfer case, instrument cluster and weld in new motor mounts.

man, i don't know about the 2lt II diesel being more powerful than the 3VZE. i think that one was just on par with the 22RE if not a little more torquey. i think you'd want something more like a 3L, 5L, or a 1KZTE

Nope, the 2LT II doesn't have the power that the 3VZE, but I wouldn't have to wire any electronics either. It actually came in some Surfs. The 3L doesn't have the solid reputation of the 2L and requires wiring in a ECU. The 1KZTE has a pretty good rep but requires wiring in a ECU also.

2LT needs a ground strap, wire to the alt and the IP and you're good to go.

How does one go about finding and importing such engines?

Barring above, I'd rebuild my 3vze with forged internals....
