World Famous Rubicon Trail In threat of being shut down.
Check this out. I just found this today in the local newspaper.
Here is the first part of the article from the Sacramento Bee today:
Chastened by the emergency closure of a popular destination spot for four-wheel-drive enthusiasts, users of the Rubicon Trail have proposed a management plan to resolve health and safety concerns in the Spider Lake area.
The Friends of the Rubicon, an umbrella organization for recreational groups using the Sierra trail, has recommended steps ranging from requiring users to carry portable toilets to a controversial proposal to consider a permit system. Too much trash and human waste caused the closure.
The rest can be found here.

We need to keep this trail open.

No part of the trail is "shut down". The area around Spider Lake has been temporarily closed for sanitation reasons.
Friends of the Rubicon along with the Pirates and many other groups are working to get it cleaned up and re-opened, as well as setting up policies to keep this type of closure or worse from happening again.
Again, the trail itself is open. It's just the ˟˟˟˟˟-hole that is the camping area around Spider Lake that is closed.

WATRD if you read the article the next step would be the close down the trail. Spider Lake is the spot of the famous Sluce Box where everybody test there ˟˟˟˟. I know the trail very well. I have been on it with Pirates of the Rubicon and I am a friend of one of the Pirates BillyBob. Isn't Pirate 4x4.com a kick ass site.

I have read the article and I don't see any mention of closing the trail. You titled the thread "World Famous Rubicon Trail shut down" and I felt the need to post to counter that. It is NOT shut down and at this point Del and many others are working to make sure that never happens.
Ah yes, Billy Bob. If I recall correctly, he is infamous for his drunken excesses on the trail, sometimes resulting in his "ramming" other vehicles. I am sure those stories aid in keeping the trail open...
Pirate has it's moments. Some good, some bad, as long as you dont mind sifting through the flames and insult contests, there's some good stuff there.

Keep in mind that not only pro recreationalists read this forum and others like it. Some that want to take away our land use rights read 4x4 related forums to fuel their fires.
In other words, Don't post about stupid s**t people do on the trails we all love! It makes us all look stupid.
