won't idle, please help
I've changed the head gaskets on my 95 4runner (3vze). Everything went back together with some problems along the way. I had difficulty setting the timing correctly but finnaly finished it. It starts right away but will not idle at all. My question is, did I do the timing incorrectly or is there something else I'm missing. All vac lines are in their original places.
I did have to remove the air plenum and clean out the black gunk that accumilated around the egr tube.

Did you jumper the OBD port while setting the timing?

There is a hose rite next to your airbox, i think it is called the airintake silencer, but it is attached to this little box. Anyways the other day my runner wouldnt idle either exactly like yours, and it was because this hose became disconnected. I put it rite back on and she worked like a charm.

Ok to me that sounds like a vacuum hose or two not plugged in. Could even be a leak at the manifold causing this as well...look at all gasket areas too. Look over the engine carefully, I bet something got missed or is not sealing. You can use some carb cleaner to check for leaks (spray it on small areas of the engine while it is running. You will hear an RPM change when you find the leak.
