Question Wiring Tap Questions.

I've got a set of auxillary lights (IPF J-01) that I'm going to wire up this weekend and I had a few questions about fuse tapping before I start. Is it better/easier to find a wire to tap in the kickplate fuse box or the fuse box underneath the hood. Also (seeing how I've never touched anything electrical before), how do I tap the wire? Do I just pull out my selected fuse and find what colored wire I strip, tap with my aux light wire, and cover with electrical tape? Or is there a better (more specifically safer) way to tap fuse wires? Thanks for the

I tapped in to the fuse box inside the cab. The better/safer way to go is to buy some fuse taps. Check with your local car audio shop or an electrical supply shop. Basically, it's a small piece of metal - one end folds over one prong on the fuse, the other end stick out above the fuse; that's where you connect the wire.

Are you wiring your switch into the fuse? Make sure it is a very low draw. Anything taking more than 1amp of current (or there abouts) should not be tapped into a fuse, IMO. You can use a Ttap or a vampire tap to tap right into a wire. I Ttapped into my switched ignition wire for all my switches.

Vampire tap? Is that the little plastic clamp doodad that you put the two wires into without having the strip them? If so, what guage are the wires that run into the in cab fuse box?

Since I don't know how many amps the IPF factory switch draws I guess I just tap the wire rather than the fuse (I don't know if it makes a difference but there's already a fuse in the wire coming from the switch). Thanks for the info.
