i was offroading today during the storm we're having here in the carolinas and my wipers kept freezing solid and wouldn't flex to wipe the sleet/snow from thewind shield...i had to keep stopping and letting the defrost blow on the windshield then chip and break the ice off of them...is there anything i can do to prevent this?

mine did that last night while I was returning a movie haha, stopped on the way back and cleaned it off.. 4wd is awesome in the snow, I can accelerate like I do normally on dry pavement.

if mine kept it up I was gonna clean the hood off enough to let the wind shield spray come out... you can get some de-icer stuff to put in there, that might help

 

My boss put rainx on his windshield and in his reservoir and said that he had no problem with the ice on his windshield. You may want to try that.

 

i may have to try the rainx on the windshield...i actually have some lyin around here somewhere if i can find it...thing is my windshield washer nozzles dont' spray...no noise at all when i hit the button...any idea of what could be wrong with'em

How cold is it there? Your fluid could be frozen You could just check your wiper fluid pump, it might be diconnected, or there might be a blown fuse.

I guess I would just poke around the wiper fluid and see if there is anything strange. Just my .02

Fluid frozen? Try and find a set of Winter wiper blades. They're common in Canada. The flexing mechanism is encased in rubber so they always flex.

 

thanx fellas...i know it's not frozen fluid because it wasn't working before when the temp was well above freezing...it was like that when i got the truck... i'll check it out further tomorrow...what's a good brand of winter wiper blades?

Like Bill said...ANCO is the brand of winter wipers that we use on the south shore. The entire assembly is wrapped in rubber.

 

RainX De-Icer...the orange stuff...my windshield and windows were frozen this morning and my sprayers were iced over too...so I went and filled a squirt bottle with RainX and about a minute later I could use the sprayers and wipers were working great!

be carful with those water bottles full of deicer, my friend was driving over a pass and had the deicer in a water bottle to deice and when he got home he forgot to empty the water bottle and left it in the car. when his wife went to drive the car the next day she grabbed the bottle thinking it was a sports drink and took a gulp and was in the hospital for 3 days! so just be carful!

 

Wow...I'll be sure to label my bottle!!

Rain X is good stuff. I haven't had to change my blades in a long time because of it. Their anti-fog stuff doesn't work too good though.
