Windshield Replacement

I just got a huge crack in my windshield and need a new one. I did a search and the only shop the posts talked about was Safelite. Should I use this shop? Also, is it better to take it to a shop or have them come to my place to do the work? I read that the trim can be a problem and that it never matches up to original factory even if you get the replacement trim from the dealer. Please recommend me some good shops to use.

I used Safelite last time I needed glass. Couldn't complain, cost me $138 installed and they did it in the parking lot at my apartment. Came out real good too.

I would take it to a shop, make sure that they are reputable and have been in business for a while. Just my experience, I had a guy come by my house and install mine over a year ago. I was recommended to him by a body shop. He did it in the winter time, and I've already had to have the top resealed along with the bottom leaks now. He had a lifetime warantee on the seal, but its worth nothing when the guy goes out of business. I don't know if there is a Harmond auto glass in your town. Here in louisville, they seem to be the most professional along with good prices. I had them fix the top seal on my windshield and it was a decent price not to mention they do quality work. I'm having them replace the rear window in my truck with a solid back glass next friday.

Dave,

Have you had any leaks yet? Also, anyone heard of Elite Auto Glass?

in MA, insurance MUST cover all costs of replacement. this happened to my friend a few weeks ago (crack in his new '03 mazda 6's windsheild by vandals) and all he did was take it to giant glass and pick it up an hour or 2 later and it was all done. giant took care of insurance stuff and everything!

I have used Safelite for years. No complaints here.

I think they are a national chain. I got new windshield two weeks ago in
wifes 4Runner and used Triumph/Diamond Auto Glass in Colorado Springs.
No complaints there either.

It cost me $150 for a tinted windshield.

Yes, but both the installer and I knew it would leak there. Part of the frame is rusted quite heavily. No leaks due to workmanship.

I called Elite just to check price. They were cheaper ($107 installed) but I didn't need a windshield at the time so I haven't tried them.
