Hello All, what a great site. Anyways, I have a 2000 4runner. A buddy of a buddy is selling his Black Steelies wheels with 3.75 backspacing. They are 16x8 like my stock wheels. I beleive he baught them from wheelersoffroad or something like that. Will they fit? Also, what is the ideal backspacing? Thanks for the help.

 

The wheels will work. They will push the tire further away from the upper a arm. It might put a little more stress on the cv's. I wouldn't worry about it though. That'll be my next set.

 

That backspacing will work, though I believe the only black steel wheels known to work on a 3rd Generation are the Tech 1's. I might be wrong on this.

That backspacing is probably not ideal if you will 'wheel your 'Runner, though. Depending on what size tire you're running, you may very well have to do some trimming if you do 'wheel it. 4.25" backspacing is ideal. Also, your stock wheels are 16x7's, not 8's.

 

I'm running M/T 4" BS, and this seems to have really worked out well with 285/75R16 tires..

 

Steve, I was originally contemplating going with the Classic Locks when I was shopping. The Classic II's don't come in 4" BS, otherwise that is what I would've opted for. I said 4.25" is ideal as that is all that is needed to clear the calipers. Anything less than that, requires a bit more trimming, especially in the 3.75" territory, I would imagine.

 

thanks for all the information. Yeah I forgot, stock is indeed 16x7. Anyways, I think I will try them out anyways, I can't pass the great deal. Per http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/toywheels.htm, the wheels itself are $55.95 each. I am getting all four for $90.00. They are in very good condition. By the way my rig is lifted 2 inches. Hopefully, I will be doing minimal trimming. They will be mounted with slightly used ProComp Mud Terrains (265/75 16). All the good deals I am getting locally, I cannot pass.

If they do not work out as expected. I guess I will sell them for a profit or something. :cry:

 

I have 3.75" on my 2nd gen and have no problems with rubbing...other than just a little bit when going in reverse and being totally turned in one direction and hitting a big bump...no worries here.

Probably a dumb question/observation but... Is 4" backspacing on a 7.5 wide wheel the same as 4.5" backspacing on an 8"? I'm assuming that the wheel will just stick out a 1/2" more right? I'm thinking about going to aftermarket wheels as well and I'm trying to get my bearings right.
