Will '01 Springs fit '96?

Hi All,

A local guy is selling the front and rear springs from his
2001 4Runner SR5 and I'm wondering if they are a straight
fit for my 1996 4Runner 4WD 2.7L?

Any comments?
thanks in advance,
jackson

They will fit. But may I ask why you want them? You are not going to see any lift or any real improvement moving from a 12yr old spring to a 7 yr old spring.

I was hoping for some improvement, guess I'm wrong?
His 2001 has 65K miles. My 1996 has 171K. I was
figuring the 100K+ miles difference would be worth
the $50 + install costs. I'm interested in anyone's
opinion because this is just a shot in the dark for me.
Bad idea, then?

well the 01 and 02's are the low rider of the 3rd gen model, so you may lose height. I see what you are saying for trying the newer springs, however have you considered other options? Is he charging you for the springs?
Personally I would not bother swapping them in. Instead I would check the classifieds here to see whos offloading some OME(old man emu) rear coils and grab those for a decent price.

or maybe look for 1999 SR5 Highlander Edition springs. these will add 1" lift to your 1996 model
