My truck is moded, but I didn't go all out because it is 2wd and I know it would be quite pointless. I know you guys are thinking "oh gee he still moded a 2 wheel drive, what a moron!" Well it's not like that for me, this is what I got and I am going to deal with it one way or another. I only did a 2 inch body lift, rims and tires, plus in when I got the truck it needed tires and I figured we would do a cheap body lift for $100 more.

Over here we have the pismo dunes nearby and a 2wd modded with a long travel suspension setup would be better out there then a modded 4wd. Those pre-runners can bomb thru the whoop section, where as us 4wd guys treat them like speed bumps.

i wanted 4wheel drive but couldn't find one around. i fount a nice limited 2WD in my price range so my parents go that. why do "off-road" looking things to it? because I like that look over the "bling" look. it's not like i'm lifting it and putting 35s on and getting a ARB or something.

What bugs me more are the F350's with 12" lifts, three sets of coilovers, bars welded all over the place, a 5" diesel exhaust with stinkin fumes pouring out of it.....absolutely spotless all the time with some weasel talking on his/her cell phone while drinking a latte at the same time.
People love their cars and like to spend money on them for many different reasons. Look at the growth in the aftermarket parts market in the last five years. Ultimately, Whitey13 had it right in the second post.

i agree with everyone: why care? my chevy was 2wd, but it had power to compensate. i didnt have a lift, but i did have 33" M/Ts on it, i DID have a rear locker on it, it DID have flared fenders. and it would go through mud just fine. tell you what... we'll do a challenge... if my chevy is still together(he was talkin about rebuilding it) we'll do a mud challenge, my old 2wd chevy VS your 4x4 toyota, and we'll see who makes it. mind ya business. .

Modding a 2wd will also increase performance.
We got a 2wd Tundra that we take down to Mexico on trips. The first year we had it, it was bottoming out on the dips through the desert. So, we put a lift on it. Now we dont worry about screwing up stuff underneath. Then we put some AT's on it so we wont slide out.
We got a 2wd truck because 95% of the time, its on the street, yet, we wanted something to get us into the desert.
This is a personal situation, and why we modded it.

Im gona bring up an age old offroad saying "wheel what ya got" not all 2wd truck owners have the money to just got out and buy another truck. I wheeled the piss out of my 2wd 86 mazda pickup, and to tell the truth it wont go as many places but that thing is 10 times as durable as my tacoma is any day.

i see where your coming from but your lumping everybody together that mod 2wd some do it cause its what they got others are better off modding a 2wd with all the nerf bars and chrome they can touch its better than all that crap being on a 4x4.

I have 1996 2WD Toyota 4Runner. Although it is a 2WD, the modifications include 33 inch Cooper tires, OME lift, Surco basket rack, Pro Comp lighting; so you can say i put a lot of money into a 2WD! But the question is WHY?
I have developed such an attachment to my vehicle and interest in the sport of off-roading that i could not resist the look and performance. I must say that I have received an abundance of harsh criticism and negativity for it being a 2WD, but i you must remember that if your finances are in place you can always convert to 4WD. Critics say trade it, sell it, buy a 4x4, but if everyone had the money to that do every vehicle would be 4x4.

as was said... in mud and many other situations, I usually keep it in 2wd and just lay on the throttle (while trying to keep the front of the vehicle pointed in the basically correct direction). I only put it in 4wd if I get stuck. I find this way more fun than just crawling through mud in 4lo (this was on a tacoma I used to have, not my current 4Runner)

you know what really bothers me?
The fact that we can't just compliment each others vehicles and accept them for what they are and what their owners chose to do to them with their money.
What does it matter? If you are driving something you like, who cares if you like the other persons or not? I think the 4Runner with 22's looks awesome, but hey, my opinion is simply that, an opinion. It does not give me or anyone else the right to claim one vehicle or mod is better than another, because it all comes down to personal preference.
Does modding a 2wd make sense in my book? It all depends what angle the owner is going for. But in the end, if the owner is happy, then more power to them. as for the OP, you had some flaming coming... Sorry, but it is true.
no personal attacks here, but this is the way it should be...
thanks. END:rant
