White lettering on tires?

Hey all, I was just wondering what you thought about putting the white letters on tires so that they are facing out. Seeing as that I have finally ordered my tires (BFG allterrains!!) I wanted the letters to be on the inside. Two of my friends put the letters out, and said that it looked better. Just wondering what others thought!

I would put lettering on the outside. Makes it look a lot better.

Depends on the tire. For BFG's I think it looks better on the out, which is what I did. But that's just one man's opinion.

White letters in on any tire. White letters out remind me of the 80's. Like Marty Mcfly's toyota pickup in "back to the future" (whether the white was out on that truck I don't know, but that's the first thing I think of).

White lettering in. It's just another thing you have to worry about scrubbing/cleaning if they're mounted on the outside.

I had the white lettering out when I originally got my BFG All-Terrains put on. I thought it looked really nice with the letters out. But after a while the letters got dirty and I couldn't get them white no matter what so I turned them around and I am now more pleased then before. The black lettering goes really well with the rest of my truck. Just my personal experience.

For purely practical reasons, run them for the first 20-25K miles white letters out, then switch them around to black letters out for the remaining miles. This will give you more even wear. I like the looks of black out best on pick-ups, but the runners look good with the white out. My 2 cents.

White letters out actually make it look like a rig. Especially with good tires. White lettters in=family rig

I have had it both ways.
I have ran white letters out since 1975.
I am a person of habit, and have always had them out, even on the 4Runner when I got my new tires for it.

My last set though I decided to put them in, and I am glad I did.

Two reasons:
1. With white letters out, it's a bitch to put on my Meguiar's Endurance tire gel.
You have to be very careful and go around the lettering, or the gel will darken the letters, and make dirt stick to it.

2. Scrub, scrub, scrub...
I still scrub my tires with Ajax at every rig wash, but it's so much easier now with all black.
Plus putting on tire dressing is so much easier.

Compare:
White out

Black out

From now on I will always have black out.

I think I'm going to stick with the black out look as well when I get my new set...just looks cleaner in the end. IMHO

I took 1st place a year ago August at the Boeing car show.

Also got my rig featured in Griot's catelog where I buy my detail supplies.

Meguiar's Tire gel extends the life of your tires by several years.
It is not just for show.
It keeps the sidewalls from oxidating, thus extending the life of the tire.

Ok. Thats sweet. You qualify as a 'Yota owner. I'm just kinda curious about these guys that just drive around with Runners and think there just for show.

I have the BFG Radial Longtrails and they are directional tires. The white letters have to be out. I do not know if the All Terrains are the same, but just watch. I went to get new tires and the guys said that the ones I was trading in were on backwards (white lettering in). I didn't have any idea there was a difference, but there is on those, but like I said, I don't know about the ATs. I personally like the white lettering out. If you think the lettering is dirty, just used some Comet or Ajax or a cleaner powder, some water and a scrub brush and it really gets them white. They look great. :fireman:

With the BFG A/T's I would run the white out. I personally run the black out, but i also don't have BFG's. BFG's lettering is small enough to keep it from looking redneck with the white out.
