Whinning Noise
When I first crank up my Tacoma I can hear a whinning noise, but when I depress my clutch the noise goes away........any ideas...I hope it is the clutch going out..

I have a 1997 Tacoma with 140K miles on it and it has done it from day one. I even took it back to the dealer when it was new and they pulled everything apart, replaced bearings and it still did it. The service manager was stumped so he pulled a new Tacoma off the lot and started it up, guess what, it made that whining sound. After mine warms up pretty good it goes away. Hope this helps you out some.

If you are talking about the faint whining sound that occurs when you first start it up, and then it goes away when the clutch is depressed, then that is normal. Mine does it too. And I have been to a couple dealers asking them about it.

Whining? Don't get me started...
Um, I don't have a clutch, but my kids whine like there's no tomorrow. Engine cold, engine hot, doesn't matter. Not sure that Toyota can help me here...
Sorry. Just took a road trip to DC (4hrs each way) and am a bit sensitive to it still... Plus, I couldn't resist.

Well I'm glad to hear other people seem to be hearing the same noise my truck is making.... Everything else seems fine. Guess I'll just chalk this noise up to the "Its normal for your TOYOTA to make that noise board".
You would think as much as we pay for a vehicle they wouldn't make any STRANGE or normal noises as Toyota puts it.
Later,
Chad
