Where is the ECU on a 2004 Tacoma?

Anyone know where the ECU is on a 2004 Tacoma double cab 4x4? I need to know but I don't have one to check out. If it is like mine it would be behind the passinger side kick panel.

If it's in the glovebox area, then it's above the box, you have to pull the box to get to it. (on mine) The box is held in with 3 10mm bolts and 2 Philips screws.

As you pull it, BE CAREFUL of the yellow connector - that's for the airbag.

Whatcha' lookin' to do? It's always interesting to hear that someone's looking for the ECU.

It causes an imbalance in the space/time continuum and you will wind up being your own grandfather.

your airbag will blow...not good when your face is 2" away from it...

disconnect the battery adn depress the brake pedal for 10 sec before doing this...

...wait, you should anyways if youre playing with teh ECU...

Disconnecting the battery will discharge the airbag firing circuit so it won't go off.

The brake pedal thing is something that has been mentioned in other threads. The thought nehind it is that there's some residual voltage left in the electrical system after the battery is disconnected, and activating the brake lights will drain that off.

Actually, there are a LOT of little circuits in a vehicle that will do that for you... the time keeper on a clock, the ECU, the keep-alive on the radio.

Disconnect the battery and you'll be fine.

That's the way it is for the ECM on the '04 Taco, too (behind the glove box).

According to the 2004 FSM diagrams, you remove (2) Phillips head screws to remove the glove compartment unit, (2) screws + (1) bolt to remove the Lower No. 2 finish panel, and (2) bolts to dismount the ECM.

Hey thanks a lot. Do you know of any links to a 2004 truck FSM?
