Where does the tachometer signal originate?
Hi guys
I'm putting a diesel into the Tacoma using a mechanical injection pump from a 1KZ-T (Not TE). Does anyone perhaps know if there is a way to use the signal from the pick-up sensor on the pump to get the tach to work? The FSM for the Tacoma is confusing because in the diagram it seems to indicate that the signal comes from the Igniter, but in the description it says that the crank and camshaft position sensors are used. Thanks

I had a 95 pickup and the tach wire came off the ignition coil. but looking at the wiring diagram,it looks like the signal comes from the ECM and goes to the combination meter control circuit.

I have seen people who swap in cummins 4bt's cut notches in there crankshaft then put in a ford explorer 2 wire camshaft position sensor to read RPM. I will try to find the thread on mud to show what there doing...Found it, see last page.
