O.K. decided to try the deckplate and ISR mod... Done some researching on the forums but still need to find a place to buy the deckplate. Some thread says any marine shop will have this? Is that right, and do I actually ask for a deckplate?

I purchased mine for $4 and $2 for shipping. Get one with bolt holes.

 

If you live near a lake or a river, or any sort of marina, yes they will have it, so will any marine store, and yes it really is a deckplate. I think I bought mine (not Benson brand) at the local marina at the lake for about $4.
Make sure you get a 4" one. 6" to big.
