When does gas light turn on in 3rd Gen?

Anybody know how much fuel is left in the tank when the gas light clicks on?

In the Tacoma I know that it's about 2.5 - 3 gallons.

Why not just wait until you see it in yours, see how many gallons it takes to fill it up, and then subtract that # from the tank capacity in your manual?

There is a TSB for this. Can't seem to find it right now but I think it affects your year. Lemme guess. It drops off of full almost imediately after filling?

That is the plan, but until then I was just curious what other have experienced. I've only filled up once since buying the car and forgot to look then.

I just remembered that right after I drove away with the car the gas light went on and I filled up at the next station. The receipt says 14 gallons so the light clicked on with 4.5 to spare. That's a lot more than my Civic used to give me.

I have a 2000 4runner, and let me tell you it could run out at any time. The fuel guage has never worked properly...I have run out of gas twice. One of those times I rolled up to the pump!

Drop a big ball bearing in your gas tank and when you can hear it rolling back and forth when braking you are about empty!

I think it supposed to have an 18.5 gallon tank...however when I ran out it only took 16.5 gallons.

Interesting... I usually get 17-18 mpg and I should probally know how big the tank is when the light comes on. I cant find my truck manual to see if it says how big the tank is???

!8.5 gallon tank on the '00. My light comes on solid with about 2.5 - 3 gallons left. There is a TSB on the '00 (plus other years? not sure) which will have the dealer replace the fuel sender and possibly the gauge, too.

Mine does the same thing and with the gas light on, it never holds more than 14 gallons and usually clicks off at 12.5 to 13 gallons, I just squeeze another gallon in there. I tried a search but can't find anything about the TSB for this?

The fuel tank on my 1996 Hilux Surf can hold 70 liters which is about 18.5 gallons. The low fuel warning light comes up when there's only 10 liters (2.65 gallons) left in the tank.

Air volume should be very minimal because the breather tube allows the air to move out.
