Im looking for some advice

I was planning on using my 05 tacoma to do some trail wheeling. The thing is this is a brand new truck and I dont want to wreck it , or do any serious damage to it. So im thinking about getting a samuari to use on the trails. So should I buy a samuari for around 2k and build it up a little. Or sould I build up my 05 and us it on trails.

i had a buddy with 1 that had tractor tires on the back and boogers on the front, and a different carb (not sure what kind). and that thing would go anywhere if ya let er eat at about 5 grand. The only thing I seen him break where shakles on the front from some hard tree impacts. As far as the 2k thing I think you could find 1 cheaper if you just wantin to wheel it

yup...lotsa people wheel samis and swear by them...

the running joke is they are great for wheelin' because, if you get stuck, you just get out, pick it up and move it.

really, though, their small size is a real plus on tight trails.

i even saw one that had a 22RE and toyota driveline in it...

 

yea I deffinatly know what they are capable little trucks. I was just thinking I sorta wasted money getting my tacoma with the locker n suff....

But yea they actually arent as inexpensive as you might think . I think alot of owners know that they will be used for off roading and people are willing to spend the cash to get one .

 

Samurais are pretty awesome off road. I'd probably get the samurai for off road if i were you.

 

Get the sammy, then tow it behind your Tacoma. There is nothing wrong with your tow rig having a rear locker. Just means that you only have to break out the sammy for the hard/fun stuff.

ya...$2k is a little much....last week i came across one guy that had 2 samurais..for $200. One ran good, one had a blown motor. I got his number, and the day after I called him...both were gone an hour before I called. I was so pissed.. They are awesome...deathly slow, but great on gas..like 25 mpg.

I'll own one someday..but not until I come across a deal like that one again.

 

yea well if you go to traderpub.com and check them out you wont find them for that cheap.People are asking in excess of 3k for them.

 

lots of zuk guys around here. they're starting to be like toy trucks were 5 years ago -- once dirt cheap and affordable, but now everybody figured out how cheap and easy they are to make trail-ready and they're getting snatched up. still good deals to be had if you know where to look though.

yea I have looked at 1st gens but if it is 85 or older they are usually pretty expensive. I think a samuari is gonna be a better option for me .

 

I have a samurai as my trail rig. I love the little thing. I got mine for $1500 from a guy who only drove it on the street and kept really good care of it. It only had 52,000 miles on it. I love everything about it except for the damn carb. Everytime I get on a difficult trail it seems to flood. It keeps impressing me everytime I take it out though. They are so much fun to drive too. With 33's and lockers and gearing you are basically unstoppable because they are so light and can fit through so many places. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me.
