Wheel spec difference between '97 & '98? (Tacoma)
I've been looking for new wheels for the '97 Tacoma I'm buying, and I keep reading things like:
"Wheels will fit: '98-'06 Tacoma, Tundra (thru '06), '86-'06 4Runner, Sequoia (thru '06)"
and
"What will these wheels fit on? Wheels will fit 4Runner ('98-'06), Tacoma ('98-'06), Tundra (thru '06), and Sequoias (thru '06)."
Is there a reason that a late model six lug Toyota truck wheel will not fit my '97?

If the wheels will fit a 98, then they will fit your 97 assuming you have OE 15" wheels. If you have OE 16" wheels and the larger brakes, then you need at least 16" wheels. Not sure what year the bigger brakes became optional.
I can take the wheels off of my 99 and put them on my 93 without issues, so you should have no problems on your 97.

Offset: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101
Backspacing: http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/Tires.shtml#WHEELS
The 2nd link also compares offset and backspacing which are measuring the same thing but stating it in different ways.
