wheel rotation question?

I'd like to do this myself, the two fronts are new so they're fine but the back ones have about 6k on them and the right one is worn more than the left due to most the power going to the back right wheel.

question is, could I just jack up the back end and switch the left wheel to the right side? or would that cause a balance problem..? they're radial long trails so I think you can switch these to different sides, and that'd put it at a more even wear if I could do this. if they'd have to be balanced again after I do it then it's not worth it to me, just a question... probably a stupid one but hopefully someone can fill me in, thanks =)

There are those who believe that a right-side tire should stay on the right side and the left-side should stay on the left. I'm noit one of those. I usually rotote in a simple clockwise rotation including the spare. Doing this I managed to get 50K miles from a set of 30K tires. Go figure. That said, I don't think that swapping the rear tires will do much for the longevity of your tires. Once a wear pattern is firmly established, it tends to continue no matter where the tire is relocated to.

As a side note, why is it you think the right side is getting more power? Do you make a lot more left turns than right? Only during turning does one tire get more torque with an open differential (or any non-spool differential for that matter).

I've wondered if there's something wrong with my diff. because in the snow, or mud, going straight the right wheel turns and the left one hardly had any power going to it. if I do a burn out on the pavement, it's just the right wheel leaving any rubber. I've been stuck before and kept it in 2wd, the right wheel was spinning like mad and the left one wasn't at all

so do you ever have a balance problem doing that with your wheels? I don't have a torque wrench either so I'd have to guess at what the lugs should be tightened at.

You should have your new tires on the rear. Now would be a good time to rotate front to back.

I always rotate the tires from back to front and then swap sides for front to back.

That would be from your open diff. It's normal.

Talking Rotate 5

I rotate all 5 since I have a matching spare. You get more mileage out of a set and always know your spare is in good shape as you see it on a regular interval.
