Personally, I wouldn't be throwing fans at the truck. It SHOULD be able to cool itself in it's stock state, unless the clutch is bad. I'd check on the sensor (read CHEAP), and go from there.

I have an annoying alternator whine, and I'm going to cover the bases (rewire under the hood), before I try expensive fixes.

To be sure its a gauge malfunction. You should have a infrared temperature gun to acurately indicate a temperature reading. You should point it at the thermostat housing. It should read at the themostat rating at normal operation. Also make sure there is no air pockets in the cooling system.Remember to bleed by running the heater and opening the radiator cap while engine is on.

New does not necessarily mean ok

My new tstat form Toyota stuck closed after 2 weeks and blew my damn hose off. I now run a stat made by Fail Safe! If they fail, you don't have a heater because they fail in the open position. Cost a little more, but what is a head gasket worth? Any good parts house carries them. If they fail, you have to pull them as they will never reset and replace. Get rid of the stupid almost a clamp and get some lined stainless worm clamps(.85each) you will be glad you did. Tim
