What Tuning/Monitoring Equipment?

I would like to get some tuning/monitoring equipment, but I'm not sure what I need and what product have overlap with each other. I also don't know where to get them? Anyone have some equipment they love and would recommend? I've heard of the Road Dyno, OnTrack Dyno, and I think it's called a BR-2. Which ones are the best and do I nee more than one?

Chris,

I've linked to the BR-2 several times. There is a link in the previous sentence for instance. Here's a pic:

The BR-2 is currently out of stock. Gee I wonder why? Give them a few days to make some more and then you can order one.

I've also done the same for the Road Dyno as well. Here's a pic for that:

I think that with the BR-2, the Road Dyno and the logging functions of the SMT-6, you'll be set and won't need any other monitoring/tuning tools.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dr. Z.

That's what I'll get as soon as I get more money. This project has turned intot a neverending money pit it looks like. Sound familiar?

So, can I actually have these all hoked up at the same time including the SMT-6 to the laptop as I'm testing this all out and tuning?

Not unless your Laptop has 3 Serial ports.

I doubt that you will have a laptop, much less a desktop puter with 3 Serial ports. However, two at a time should be sufficient. Hell, my laptop has only one serial port and I'm not worried. I can make adjustments on the SMT-6 then go for a drive and check out readings on the BR-2. Or I can make adjustments on the SMT-6 while driving and then swap the BR-2 in to have a looksee.

I wouldn't sweat it too much that you can't run all three devices at once. I'd use the Road Dyno and BR-2 to get baseline readings after you get the truck to run semi-decent with the SMT-6 and THEN start swapping back and forth while tweaking.

Hope this helps.

They're exactly the same box... unless you're talking about the Dyno Plus or the DP Data Logger at the link you posted.

The Dyno Plus is promising more accuracy, and then the Dyno Plus Data Logger has a 7 channel A/D that you can set up to record misc info along with the run.

Yeah, I'm wondering what's the best route for the money. I'll have to research it some more before I purchase one of the options.
