DH6twinotter,

The Lock-Ease will definitely do the trick--I use it on the car doors, house doors--anything that requires using a key. You just spray it in, put the key in and turn it a few times to lubricate, and let it dry. You may want to have a towel handy as the liquid may spill out a bit (and to wipe off your key). As far as the broken key, that I cannot help you with! But, I'm sure a locksmith could get it out if you can't. It may cost you $30, but that's cheaper than changing the locks.

Luckily, the only thing I've had to replace is the gas that goes in the gas tank.

I have had my 1995 4Runner for just about 2 years. It only has 133K Kilometers on it so that is only about 80K miles.

I replaced all 4 shocks this year because the right front one was leaking oil. When I got the rest of them off, I found they were still pretty good. I probably should only have replaced the front ones.

I put a clutch kit in this fall. My clutch was slipping badly in 3rd gear if I stepped on the gas hard.

I put brake pads on the front this fall as well.

It got 4 new tires at the dealer when I bought it.

I replaced the metal pieces (and rubber inserts) that hold the glass in the tailgate as they were rusted out.

Apart from that, only spark plugs, fluids and a fan belt that I can think of.

Randy

I'm the orig owner. Got the truck new in 11/97.

Here's what had to be replaced:
@ 6 month- replaced all lube with Royal Purple Motorsport synthetics. removed silencer tube from air box. Added K&N air filter.
@ 8 months - replaced both rear mud flaps; damaged them wheeling.
@ 10 months - replaced passanger side foot step; damaged them wheeling. hammered out right one and still ok to this day.
@ 20,000 mile - replaced tires. Stock ones shot; probably due to wheeling.
@ 24 month - replaced both rear mud flaps again; damaged them wheeling.
@ 70k - timing belt + all belts.
@ every two years- flush radiatior and tranny.
@ every 5k mile - oil and filter.
@dont remember when - new coilover fronts and springs/shocks rear. on-board air and tank.

odo just turned 100k and running strong. replaced coilover bushings- orig ones are shot.
antenna needs to be replaced now- does not fully retract.
orig skid plates probably needs replacement - looking at custom.
paint job needs a polish- lots of arizona pinstriping.

To weigh in, I got my 97 last October with 109k miles and it sits at 113k now.

Before I would buy the truck,
-New rear axle (seal blew third time under warranty the day I test drove it)
-rear pads and drums
-timing belt
-water pump

After purchase,
-plugs
-wires
-PCV
-all three wipers
-flushed brake fluid (should've been done at the axles service)
-air filter

I suspect I need to do the following,
-rotors/pads
-O2 (mileage sux)
-coils/shocks
-tires won't go through next winter

I am sure I forgot a few.

-Stu.

I've had my 4Runner almost two years.

-Replaced an O2 sensor
-Replaced the radiator
-kept up with standard maintainance

That's pretty much it, I hope that another 2 years from now the list is just as short!

I got it at around 86,000 miles and now I'm at 112,000 miles.

-Keith
