I seem to be averaging about 17-18 mpg. It's been as bad as 16, and one time got 19 somehow, but it seems most other 3rd gen's are getting in the neighborhood of 20 on a regular basis, give or take 2mpg. I get this mileage with 70% being highway, and 30% being city driving. Seems low to me. I have 265/75/16 tires and an auto tranny. I just wanted to get an idea of what sort of milage others are getting.

265/70/16 4.10, it's not an auto, it's a 4SP that I shift telepathically

14 mpg - aggressive city.
18 mpg - comfortable highway.

97 SR5 3.4 auto stock air filter, no deckplate... Limited's should be around a mile less per gal due to added "armor".

15-18. Seems about the same as my V8 Grand Cherokee I just traded in. I thought it would be better than that... it is a lot nicer 15-18 though.

I get 15.5-19 indicated, add the `10% or so for bigger tires and I'm pretty happy with it. I had a 96 montero that was a bit worse, and a hell of alot slower, of course I also had a 96 Impala SS that was a bit better, and a hell of alot faster.

HaveBlue,
26-27 mpg in the mountains is pretty impressive especially with a supercharger. I was wondering if the fuel atomizer made any difference.

More power and better fuel economy sounds like a pretty good reason to buy a 3rd gen.

AgRunner06-
The Fuel Atomizer helped. But I've also switched the synthetic in everything. I also installed a Flex-a-Lite electric fan which helped minimize the parasitic loss.

I don`t know how many miles to the gallon .But my 97 with a 2.7 driving at a steady 120km/hr I get 12L per 100km .I have 265 tires on my 4runner all stock. I get about 14L per 100km in the city.

What's Vtek? I've driven '97 and '00 stock V6 5 speed 4Runner's (4.10 gear ratio) and they both indicated 74 mph@2800 RPM's. What configuration are you running to get 90mph@2800 RPM's?
