I'm in Tucson. We have two Costcos here, one on north side and one on east. The east one always seem to be about $0.05-$0.10 cheaper

So, I am curious to see what everyone else is filling up with, and whether it would be safe to go down to 87 grade gas to save some $. What gas do you fill up with, and what year/model do you drive?

I have ran 87 from day one. My '89 3.0 knows no difference between the grades. The only exceptions are when I've tried experimenting with the fuel mileage Vs. higher grades but have never been able to measure a difference.

I have always used 91 Octane Union 76 in my 3.slow.
I get no ping with the timing set to stock.

However, the price of it here is around $2.43 per gallon now, so for the past 3 weeks I have been experimenting with 89 octane.
I get a slight ping on some hills, but my gas mileage has gone up 2 MPG.

I think it is due to the engine being able to burn more of it or something like that.

In combined city/freeway driving I use to get around 11.50 to 12 MPG.
This of course is without configuring in the tire diameter difference since I run 31" tires and am geared for the puny 225 or 235 size tires.

I check my mileage at every fill up and I am now getting a consistent 14.20 to 14.50 MPG, also without the tire adjustment figured in.

Right before the gas hike I experiemented with different grades and noticed zero difference in mileage or performance in my 97 4Runner V6. So I get the cheapest gas I see. However, my 94 Toyota 4x4 truck HATED the 87 gas, but it was a 4 cyl.

BTW, Phoenix prices at about $2.17 for 87 this week, if anyone is studying geographic pricing.
