9+ years of 85 octane in my 3.4L's and not one problem. 4,500ft + elevation and countless trips up the canyons/mtns. Or just keep giving your cash to OPEC.

i run 87 octane in everything lol
advance your timing.run some 91 octane fuel with some good octane booster and see what happens...you'll be burnin the tires off of that 3vz in no time flat..
yes octane will do nothing for you unless you're vehicle has been designed to run on it

When my previous owner bought the rebuilt 3vze in the truck now just 30k miles ago from a company called Japanese Engine Distributing or sumthin like that, the mechanic told the previous owner to use 89 or 91 octane only from Chevron. So all the engine has ever seen is Chevrom 91

does the chevron gas or shell cost anymore for you guys?? than like so and so's quick stop..
here in my town..there are 3 stations..2 are Finish line..i think lol ( all 2 get their gas from the same place..the other one is shell) and the other is a shell..
welllll the 2 finish line stores usually have a different price..one is usually about $.05/gal more than the other..and the shell is usually $.10-$.15 higher than both of those.
now im a cheap bastard, so i always go for whoever is cheapest (unless im getting a small amount of gas..then i dont care where i get it) and i've never had any problems in the way of water or junk in the fuel?? neither has any of my family lol
of course just like any other station you have to watch out when you get gas...if you get gas right after or while the tanker is filling the tanks underground...then you will get gunk in your tank no matter where you go..unless your at a BRAND NEW STATION,
i just think it's stupid when people say "my truck/car won't run on that crappy cheap gas"....well it's a proven fact that it will...your just not smart enough to go for the better deal.. LOL

The whole concept of "regular, mid-grade, premium" is one of the biggest scams of all time. As consumers, we are bred to think premium means "the best", and as such we'll plunk down 20-30 more cents per gallon. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. 4runners were designed to run on 87...so use 87!
It's true that FI'd cars or those with high compression ratios need a slower-burning fuel, and the gas cap or owners manual will tell you what is required.
People who buy "premium" for status, or because they think they are doing their car a favor just blow my mind. But, whatever...

I agree with you Qyota. All I run is Regular 87 octane, premium at 91 octane makes my runner idle rough and really I dont get much better fuel milege so I dont even bother. drive er easy not to the floor and youll save more money at the pumps.

Both vehicles with 3.4s I have had do better with 91. My 05 taco with the 4.0 I used 87 because there was no difference between 87 and 91. My 2001 LC saw 87 for the same reason. Gas here has ethenol added. I don't know how much of a difference that makes.
