What to get to be off-road worthy?
Hey everyone , Im looking to make my 92 runner off road worthy. I want to be able to handle some dificult trails but nothing to serious for now. Want to spend the least amount as possible. Right now basicaly stock exept rancho shocks up front , rancho steering stabilizer.31"Bfg a/t's . My 92 is a 5spd also. What should i get to make it off-road capable,WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK!!! I would also like to be able to do the mods myself if possible so nothing to dificult. Thanks
Aaron

the one thing let is going to give you the bigest offroad advatage is going to be a locker . You can get a auto lockig locker for about 300-500 bux , or a selectable arb for about 900 + 200 for the compressor . also lareger tires would be nice . you can put 33s under a 2nd gen runner w/o to much difficulty do a search youll find lots-o-info about lifting runners here . also just spend time around here reading and soon you will have mucho indeas on what you want to run on your runner .

You didn't mention if you're 4x4 or not, but MarcP has a second gen and he's got a very capable rig without breaking the bank. He added a soft locker in back, and I don't think it was that much. He also scored some manuel hubs up front for real cheap, now he won't have to worry about cv angles if he lifts any higher.
You should try and make our Anza Borrego trip the weekend before halloween, there is all levels of trails to hit and have fun. We're pretty active with trail runs down here, you should try to make it for one, then you'll figure out what you need.

Ok so where can i find a locker for the rear and whats type should I get. when 1 wheel slips is that how most lockers engage or do i have to actualy lock it manualy. I dont want to have to get out to lock them. Also i dont really want to do any lift maybe just simple lift with springs or something. Is a rear locker something easy to install? So sounds like all i really need is larger tires 33's and a locker. the larger tires will give more ground clearance but a lift doesnt it just allows bigger tires is that correct?

Oh yea im 4x4 , wouldnt bother asking if i wasnt
.I would love to go to anza borrego. But not sure if im gonna be able to make it that soon . I dont have any vacation left at work, could go for the weekend i guess but wouldnt have much time. I will think about it, I could probably leave work early on friday and head up. Im scared to bring my runner to a place like that i hope it will make it. Runs good and all has almost 180k on it , sometimes I smell coolant coming from the motor havent located the source yet. I think it might be a heater hose but not sure.
