On pavement the thin grooves disipate heat faster so the tread lasts longer.

I'm running BFG All-Terrain KOs 31X10.5 on 15 inch rims (they're aftermarket too, but some cheaper brand, came with the truck) I love the tires. I was almost disappointed in the winter when I had alot of traction and couldn't have fun, but definitely no complaints. I think they'e perfect daily driver tires, and they give you plenty of traction for lighter off roading.

Hi Tomus -- I'm running Bridgestone Dueler A/T 31x10.50 R15LT tires on stock steel rims. I think it is an awesome tire. Not real noisy on the pavement, but a real aggresive tread. Smooth highway ride and plenty of grip off road.

Matt summed up the siping.
They make a tool you can use to sipe the tire with, but I just have the tire place do mine when they put them on.
Here is a close-up of the siping.
It looks like razor cuts in the tire, and this really does help.
A lot of performance tires for passenger cars come this way from the factory.
In fact it was my X wife who showed me her tires on her Nissan Maxima that had the cuts in them.
They had replaced her tires, but they came that way.
The next week I paid Les Schwab to do my set that I run now during the winter.
The set I have on now for spring through fall I had siped at the time of sale.

Tires
I'm running 32 x 11.5 BFG AT KO's on my factory 15 x 8's. This is my second set. I got over 40K miles on my first set. I should get about 45K from the 2nd set. What kind of life can you get from BFG Mud TA's? I was thinking of either those or MT Baja Radial Claws for my next set. Any thoughts?

acually, i have dayton timberlines. my mistake. but like i said they are not a bad tire.
good question - whats the life on the BFG muds vs. the ATs?????
how about pirelli scorpion's? i saw some of those, they look good.
what about mickey thompsons? those also look like some good tires.
also - general tire? i've heard good things about these from someone on the board, i forget who.
any idea on the life of all these? that, and price, is what im thinking about. and i want them to be pretty agressive.

Here's the Pirelli Scorpion:
I like them. Good for everything but mud, but then they're not mud tires. Not too noisy, but more so than my previous michelin LTXs. They're a little bit cheaper than the bfgs and about the same as the duelers.
I just wish I had gotten mud tires.

BFG AT's 265/75R16.

Great on & off road so far. I'm very confident in their capabilities. Not especially good in the rain, but 'acceptable'. They catch a lot of rocks in the tread, making clicking sounds when you drive, until you get to crusing speeds where they start getting spit out, loudly, at the bottom of your 4Runner. Still waiting & looking forward to testing them out in moderate & deep snow.
I used to have Bridgestone Dueler AT's 265/70R16's:
Pretty much same as above without the rocks catching in the tread. Tread life isn't as high as the BFG's & the BFG's look more aggressive in my opinion.

33x12.5R15 Wild Country RVT Traction tires here. Description is HERE. They are an agressive tread, similar to Gene's MTR's, but actually run quieter on road than Corey's TXR's
For those who are considering siping, keep in mind that it can also contribute to "chunking". It's a good thing in many situations, including on road performance, especially on wet pavement. But it's not a great idea for rock crawling or heavy trail use.
