Occasionally I'll smell strong exhaust in my truck. When the tank is completely full I can smell gasoline. I am not a mechanic but have heard the cause of this can vary. Can you all suggest some reasons this may be happening that I can suggest to my mechanic to check? There was a great thread posted on this forum somewhere about a guy hunting down the smell in his car but can't seem to find it. Really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I have a 4cylinder engine if it matters.

 

 

Is this when your all alone with no other running vehicles close

I smell exhaust fumes and even gas fumes from time to time from different vehicles ..

I am thinking if it was exhaust from your vehicle you would smell it all the time.

Gas fumes from a bad Evap system will sooner or later trip a code

 

No I just smell it occasionally. Often when the tank is totally full but also at random times -- sometimes smells like gas, sometimes like exhaust.
