what can happen if i use the wrong grease?

i'm going to grease my driveshaft tomorrow and i checked my owners manual and it recommends NLGI #2 LITHIUM grease for the u-joints and NLGI #2 MOLY grease for the yoke and double carden joints....

what happens if i only use for example the lithium on all joints??? will it bind, will it slip, will it sieze??

of course i want to maintain my truck the proper way but is there really a difference and will it be that much more beneficial to use the proper lube for the propery joints?? in my mind as long as it's greased it should be good.

Should i buy the 2 different types of grease?? is it worth it??

Thanks!

probably not gonna be a big deal. I greased my drivetrain yesterday and I used that green grease for everything. And before that, I don't even know what I used....I've had no slippage binding or any other trouble.

I don't think it would be worth it especially if you only have one grease gun, you'll only use a little bit of the one type....and probably loose a bit of it when changing tubes.

i say just go with some marine grease so itll stay on there for a while. i dont see why any kind of grease wouldnt work for those apps. if the parts were more finicky, then maybe stick to the recommendations, but i think either is fine

I used this stuff at all locations:

It doesn't have moly, but it seems to work fine.

I'm no expert, so I'm also curious if this will cause any long-term problems.

I've always wondered why it called for 2 kinds of grease. Can't see any of those parts being that sensitive to a different kind of grease.

Personally, I just use whatever's in the grease gun (usually, the red general use grease).
