I've been off roading thru water recently and i was wondering if there are any improvements or add ons that i should put on my vehicle ..... or if there is any damage going to be done to my car..... so if you could let me know what i should be worried about or what i should do id appreciate it

 

Well since no one has answered thus far I will, to what I know.

The best bet is a snorkel, becuase if water gets in your intake and in your engine, you are a goner...

If you don't know what a snorkel is, its a big hose that sticks out of usually the side fender of your truck. There are many different ones, but heres a quicky picture...

 

How much would that cost and is it hard to install?

 

Yeah, they can get extremely pricey, especially for a nice one. Usually you will find only the really offroady/hard-x-core people have them. But I found a thread for ya I remembered about this guy making one himself.

grease all U joints and try the search for cheap mods

 

diff breather and gearbox/transfer extensions to top of firewall. snorkel. electric thermo fan so u can turn it off while going through deep water. grease everything like crazy and clean/regrease often. seal electricals.

 

you don't need a snorkel unless water is seriously
deep

your best best is invest in a set of 4 jack stands and
some air tools to quickly rip all 4 wheels and brakes apart
and clean and inspect after every adventure:

wheels, boots, bearings, brakes, and the tools to service them

diff breathers and diff fluid

if you have a setup in place, it is no big deal to do this but if you want
to keep your rig and go water adventures this will save a lot of coin down
the road

 

If you don't have extended diff breathers, change your gear oil now, or sooner if possible.

I have a question though, are there breather valves for the front diff and transfer case? If so, where are they located. I haven't been able to find them, although I haven't looked at the transfer case yet.
