i have a TJM T-15 and Warn M8000. i installed everything last night, by myself, BUT i waited to wire the solenoid after i bolted the bumper back on

where did yall mount yours?

i saw steves in the engine bay, guess i'd have to splice longer wires?

is the solenoid water resistant (proof)?

also about the winch, should the clutch lever be on the driver side or passenger or does it matter?

 

I have a Warn M8000 inside a TJM T-17, you may have to take it back off to get it wired. There is at least one wire that I had to attach to the winch first before I put the bumper on. That wire's nut was facing the front of the bumper where you can't get to it once the bumper is mounted. and I attached it and put a little quick connect on the end of the wire so I could connect it up easy once the bumper was on.

I put my control box (solenoids) on the passenger side of the bumper (inside the bumper) which is the same side my battery is on. Here is a picture of the outside of my TJM T-17 you can see the plug for the control box on the top. The control box can get wet but it shouldn't be submerged as that will short out the wires. If you mount it upside down make sure there are some drain holes in the plastic cover so it won't hold water. I took my control box apart and seperated the plug from the box so it would fit through the bumper to the outside. The plug is wired to a 6 pin quick connect like what is used for trailer light hook-ups.

I didn't need any extra cable lenght, in fact I had a little too much. I also put a welding cable quick connect inline of the positive power cable (right near the battery) so the winch doesn't have power except when I need it. This will prevent some kid from using a paperclip to start up your winch without you knowing about it and it is also good fire safety. If that large power cable ever shorts out to the frame it would be a big fire.

I mounted my Warn M8000 with the clutch lever on the drivers side.

 

I've have the Warn XD-9000 and the control box is bolted in the engine compartment, passenger side, near the hood. The clutch on mine is on the driver's side.

 

do you have a pic? did you need to lenghten the wires?

 

do you have a pic of the inside of your bumper? did you drill into the bumper?

 

My clutch is also on the driver's side. I mounted my box the traditional way.

 

there isnt enough room for me to do that, the space is real small. especially with Rallye 4000s in there

I have a pic of solenoids mounted inside the bumper. Mines not a tjm but you will get the idea. You can take off the plastic housing and just have the solenoids seperate to give you room. mount the remote connector where ever it is handy.

I don't have any pics from the inside. I'll see if I can get some with the bumper on, it may not show much. Mine is like zedex's though except I still have the cover on my box.

I had to drill a hole for the plug to go though. I mounted mine with zip ties to a bracket I welded to the inside of the bumper. I was doing a lot of welding on mine anyway before I repainted it. You could drill a couple holes to secure the box with bolts or something.

 

ITS FINALLY DONE!

got the solenoid rigged up with some zip ties . its on the passenger side and looks very similar to the picture i posted above.

got the synthetic rope put on, aluminum hawse fairlead, Hella 4000s...

im going for a test run tomorrow, ill take pics and post results.

Hi Cebby. its about 70 lbs. I really shaved alot of size off this one because it was just too big. Thank you. The bumper works really nice and the lights are great. Not too much you cant see.

so 694.86 for the winch and rope/fairlead. thats normally the price of just the winch.

so then i decided that i needed a snatchblock and other winch accessories. So i looked into the Warn medium winch accessory kit...$170 !!!

i went to northern tool this morning and picked up these:

3/8" Clevis Slip Hook (warn hook too small): $4.99
8 ton snatch block: $19.99
3/4" D-ring shackles (X2) (already had these): $15.98
Leather Gloves: $1.99
Tree-saver winch strap: $5.99
Camoflauge tote: $4.99

Accessory kit TOTAL: $53.93

so i got an extra D-ring shackle and hook, still for less than Warn kit. i dont think i need the chain that comes with the Warn kit, but i'd still be about $100 under the Warn kit if i wouldve bought a chain.

Total cost for winch and accessories (short-term) : $748.79

my budget for this round was about $750, so i came in right on.

ill post pics and all that stuff on monday when i get back to my apartment where my computer is.

Oh and heres a note to those who are thinking about getting a winch: GET SOMEONE TO HELP YOU! my back is killing from lifting/balancing the damn bumper/winch by myself. also, have someone there who has wired a winch before. after i first installed the bumper/winch, i had to take it all off again b/c of 1 freakin wire.
