VSC TRAC Warning Light

I haven't had my 2002 4Runner Limited very long, but so far it drives like a dream. However, this morning, while driving on the Interstate, the VSC TRAC warning light went on, as well as the Malfunction Indicator Lamp. The owner's manual just says to take it to the dealer when this happens, but I was hoping to avoid this if possible. I've ordered the official Repair Manual and hope to fix some of the simpler problems myself, but I don't have the manual yet. Is this indication likely to be something I can check myself before taking it in to the shop?

Believe me, I'm definitely one that believes in 'fixing it yourself', but this is one scenario I'd don't know that I'd mess with. If the VSC/TRAC OFF dash indicators are both on, I believe you may have a problem with the ABS (brake) actuator system. Trust me, the wiring schematic for an ABS system with VSC & A-Trac is a bit extensive.

The first thing I'd do is check the brake fluid levels in your master cylinder. If its low, top it off to the recommend level. Can't say for sure, but you may cause further damage if you continue to drive it for an extended period. Plus you may be running the risk of braking problems since both of those features (VSC/A-Trac) are all tied into the ABS system.

My nickles worth...

5 years later and this was the only result in the search

VSC/TRAC (ABS fault) from leaking rear axle seal = oil on sensor

when vsc/trac and engine malfunction lights are on, it means the fuel/air ratio sensor is bad. its the front sensor on the exhaust pipe. already had that problem on my 02 runner. went and had it scanned and thats what it came up with. so i replaced the part and wa'la it was good as new.

Once the MIL(check engine) comes on,it will also turn on VSC TRAC warning light...This does not mean there is something wrong with the VSC/trac,it just that the ECM disables them when it goes into base programing because of the check engine light.....Need to have codes pulled, drivetrain ones in particular.

Also if you have an autozone near you, they will usually pull the codes for free for you......Write them down...p0301,ect,current and history codes..........and be nice, cause they usually think they are super diagnostic tech.

x2... get the codes read and post up the results. Other than that, all you'll get for responses are guesses.

You probably need "Zero Point Recalibration". It took an hour and my dealer did it fo' free

Same thing happened to me all the time on on-ramps, even when I took 45 MPH ramps at 20. VSC is just a silly system

my dealer said " we dont do anything like that." i found how to do it in the FSM you friggin idiots! biggest toyota dealership in the mid west and the lead mechanic tells me they dont do this? the stealer pisses me off to no end. do i have to print their service manual and show it to them???

my concern is that there may be a band component in my system that i should replace before the recal. did everyones elses problem develop over time? mine did. it when from perfectly fine to beeping when doing 20 on a 45mph off ramp to beeping and shutting off when i am going straight down the road.

That is when I call other dealers. If they don't want the business that's fine with me.

What is a "would"?

Are you just making random posts on Yotatech to promote your website?

Hmm.
