VSC OFF, VSC TRAC & ABS lights on

The three lights came on early this morning while driving in the dark. At first I thought I had mistakenly flipped my AndyMod/TRAC OFF switch while turning my driving lights on. Not the case.

Since getting home, I've scanned for codes (none), checked any ABS-specific underhood fuses (fine), and had some coffee (good).

At 399,300 miles, my truck doesn't owe me a thing. But I'd like to track the issue down nonetheless. To that end, I think my next step will be to check resistance for each ABS sensor. Beyond that, any thoughts? I guess the ABS ECU could have thrown in the towel.

A few findings so far.
- The LF sensor shows 1,618 Ohms. With ignition on, the wiring harness shows 2.63v.
- The RF sensor shows 0 Ohms. With ignition on, the wiring harness shows 2.55v.

Is it a safe bet that (a) the RF sensor is dead, and (b) that's the cause for the VSC OFF, VSC TRAC and ABS lights to be on?

I'm not familiar with your system, but the ABS system definitely needs working ABS sensors inorder to do its job as ABS & VSC, I have read that you can get ABS brake codes from the underhood diagnostic port, I did not read into it further.., but it sounds like you have already determined the problem., you could continue your assumption and test the rear sensors aswell.

Malcolm,Thank you. I ordered a new right front sensor a few days ago. As luck would have it, the lights went out the next day. Then they reappeared...I'll replace it and see if the issue goes away. If not, I'll test the rear sensors (connectors are located on top of a crossmember, in a knuckle-unfriendly location...).Andreas

Problem solved. I removed the right front wheel speed sensor this morning and happened to look into the bore. At the bottom of the hole, just above the tone ring, was a small shard of metal. I pulled it out with needle nose pliers and then tested the sensor again on the bench. Definately dead. Cleaned the bore, installed the new Toyota sensor and took it for a long test drive. All is well.

As for the shard of steel, the only thing it can be is shrapnel from when I replaced all wheel bearings at 300,000 miles. I did the fronts on the truck and it was pure murder. Somehow I must have scored the hub bore and created this piece. Then it lived within the hub until dislodging and somehow fouling the sensor.

Glad to see it wasn't anything serious, what with your major milestone and everything.
