it's the welds, and it's completely normal. welded metal needs a long period of time to completely solidify, when you superheat metal for the weld, cool it for a minute, then drive around you heat it right back up. all it is doing is extending the cooling time, give it a week and it'll be better. also, smoke byproduct from the welds can and will get trapped inside the muffler and those take time to disappear as well

What miller said, and also, if the installer had greasy hands, all that grease will burn off and smell for a while.

Just be glad the installer was not eating a lindberg cheese sandwich when installing it.

Even my Magnaflow stunk on the FJ for a few weeks after it was installed.

My Vortex smelled like a mix of burtnt chicken and poly-lithium grease.

It was gone in about 4 or 5 days. Completely normal.

It's totally normal. My Jardine catback setup smelled terrible for about 4 days. At first, I thought I toasted my cat, but it was just the new muffler.
