Vibration in lifted 3rd gen.

My 3rd gen is now lifted 2" all round.

However, I am having some vibration problems at higway speeds. At around 55 mph thru 60 mph accelerating, I get a vibration that just makes the truck feel really harsh.

Also, coming back down from 65 mph (coasting), it does it a little worse.

It is not a tire vibration (they are balanced and did not do it before) and I have had the allignment done.

Anyone got any ideas ?

I think I lucked out when I did my lift because I barely had to touch the tires to balance them. I did have a vibration at 70mph it was very slight and for some reason it went away. You can try the proper wheel balancing with the hub-centric mounting. If you have done that try moving the tires around on the truck. Otherwise I think we just have to deal with maybe a little vibration because we changed the angles of the front axles.

You might be getting the CV boot touch by adding the additional rubber spacer which I think was meant to make the spacers 2 1/2" rather then 2". I left the rubber spacer off and don't have any fins touching.

Anytime you mess with the factory geometry things wont be perfect. Nature of the beast

Thanks Steve,

I did NOT use the rubber spacers and get just under 2" of lift.

I have pictures of the same parts on Schaeffer's truck and his Cv boots look identical to mine and he did not get vibration.

I am still a little suspicious of the allignment so I will work through everyting systematically until I get it fixed or take the freakin things off.

If all else fails take a look at your driveshaft. After a while your U joints will wear at the stock driveshaft angle. Then when you lift your truck it will throw everything out of wack.

I say it's a last resort because your truck is so new and 2" is so little.

You might also check your tranny mounts and your engine mounts. Sometimes the rubber will crack or harden. But again, your truck is so new that I doubt they're the problem.

Good luck

David,
My bad you are absolutely correct. I saw the rubber under spacer and thought it was the add on. :pat:

I also read your other posts and it sounds like you have more then just a slight vibrations going there that the lift would make happen. Since you feel it in your feet rather then in your hands; have other things checked out as said on the ODW board like mounts and driveline issues.

If you are still leary of the alignment get it chacked at a different place.

Don't give up on it, the lift isn't that extreme and it will be worth it later on when people see your truck and ask "Is that lifted? That's nice!"

Good Luck and let us know how you make out and what the problem really was so others can look out for such things in the future.
