This pic is a cable operated disconnect that were standard on an earlier model Oz luxury version of a Nissan Patrol. They had a small e brake type handle under the dash to operate it. But they are too long to use on the 4Runners front IFS, but with a body lift it would basically be a bolt up affair on the rear. But they are hard to find and expensive if you do find them. I have two

This pic shows how it works. Very clever as its basically two halves of a valve collett type scenario but with straight sides. The spring loaded mechanisim forces them to lock into a round slot cut into the shaft just like a valve. When the cable pulls the top section down the two "colletts" come out of the locking slots and the shaft slides up or down etc.

The switch activates a dash warning light that its disconnected.
